To qualify for Pre-Registration rates, payment must be received by the
Registrar by August 31, 2012.
Full Refunds, less 125 USD processing fee, will be made if requested in
writing before September 30, 2012.
Hotel cost: Basic hotel rates for single or double rooms at the Wailea Marriott are the
U.S. Government per diem lodging rate, presently 209 USD per night, and are subject
to a lodging tax (approximately 13.4%) and resort fee (optional, 25 USD per day).
Housekeeping gratuity will be at guest discretion. Bellman Porterage is mandatory.
Currently, porterage is 10 USD per person, roundtrip, plus tax, subject to
increase. Porterage is using porter/bellman service to carry
luggage to the room, and guide one to their room. It is recommended
in order to avoid difficulty in finding the room the first time one goes to it.
Resort Fee: Currently, the optional resort fee is 25 USD per day, per room
to include the following - Unlimited local and domestic US calls, unlimited
in-room internet access, overnight self parking, 1 Liter of bottled water
daily, 500 Marriott Rewards points, 10% discount on Grande's
Gems, (excluding special events), 10% discount on Mandara Spa
50 minute treatment, 20% discount in Mala restaurant for
dinner (excludes lounge, prix fixe menu, early bird specials, and
alcoholic beverages), 20% discount on cabana and casabella rentals,
and two (2) welcome Mai Tais. Inclusions are subject to change.
(Note that the only legal parking near the Wailea Marriott is at the
hotel, so if one has a rental car, one probably wants to pay the resort fee.)
TRANSPORTATION

Many U.S. and international airlines fly into the Hawaiian Islands.
Here is a link to a listing of all the airlines that serve Hawaii:
http://www.hawaiiforvisitors.com/transportation/overseas-airlines.htm.
The main airport in Maui is Kahului Airport (OGG).
Access to the conference hotel, the Wailea Beach Marriott, from the Kahului Airport
on Maui is easy. The hotel is 16 miles SE of the airport, and can be
reached by taxi (approx. $60 fare), SpeediShuttle ($40/person), or rental car.
STUDENT SUPPORT

There will be a limited amount of support to help defray the cost of attending
the conference for both foreign and US students.
Please contact Jim Goforth ( goforthjj@hotmail.com),
conference treasurer, to inquire about what is available.
COMPANION PROGRAM

The $225 companion registration fee covers breakfast and lunch
buffets, as well as breaks during the conference.
Companion tickets for the Conference Banquet may be purchased at the
registration desk.
The Island of Maui is one of America’s premier destination spots, and the
opportunities for exploration are almost unlimited: beaches, snorkeling, surfing
and other water sports; spectacular natural beauty; hiking, horseback riding and
bicycling; cultural exploration; whale watching or romantic sunset cruises; shopping
and much more. To help orient you to the Island regions and the vast array of
possible activities, we have arranged a Companion Orientation Coffee Hour for 9:30 a.m.,
Monday, October 15, 2012, in the Marriott Hotel’s Mala Restaurant Lounge.
The Marriott Hotel concierge staff and a representative of the Maui Economic
Development Board will be available to provide an introduction to the island and
an overview of the types of activities available to visitors. Many tours and
other activities can be booked at that time if you choose. In addition, the
Marriott Hotel always has a wide variety of activities scheduled onsite.

Many activities on Maui can be arranged on relatively short notice after you arrive,
particularly if you plan to rent a car and provide your own transportation.
To ensure availability of the rental car you want when you want it,
we recommend that you reserve your car in advance, since rental cars on Maui can
sometimes be in short supply.
Some of the most breathtaking excursions, however, are best enjoyed by sitting back
and letting someone else drive the winding and unfamiliar roads of Maui.
Two classic activities that fall in this category are the Road to Hana and watching
the sunrise over Haleakala, both of which involve drives of several hours.
If these tours are on your “Must Do” list, we recommend that you book your tours
several weeks in advance of your arrival on Maui, to ensure that you aren’t
disappointed. There are several tour companies that offer fully escorted tours to
Hana and Haleakala, including:
If there is sufficient interest in a Megagauss 14 group tour to either Hana or
Sunrise over Haleakala, we can make such arrangements with sufficient advance notice.
The per person cost for a group tour would probably be slightly more than the
individually booked tour price, and would require prepayment at least 4 weeks
in advance. If you are interested in a group tour to Hana or Haleakala, please
contact Rikki Quintana, at 505-235-5046 or rikki@megagauss.org NO LATER THAN
SEPTEMBER 1, 2012.
We look forward to seeing you in October. Aloha!
